Assessment

We offer a full assessment to find the root cause of your pelvic floor issues. This starts with a conversation to enable us to understand the nature of the conditions that are bothering you. We will then do an external examination to assess different muscles, joints and surrounding structures to check for firing, activation, weakness, mobility and stability of the areas around the pelvic floor. An internal exam is not always needed, and we can discuss the pros and cons to help you find a path to recovery that works best for you.

Treatment

We use different techniques to help in strengthening, stretching, and mobilizing areas around the pelvis. Education is a big component of pelvic floor physiotherapy and we will spend time discussing and teaching different strategies that can involve breathing techniques, strengthening, stretching and education on the issue at hand. I will give you the tools to improve the overall health of the pelvic floor.

What is an internal exam?

An internal exam enables us to assess the strength and/or weakness, together with activation of the pelvic floor. It gives us information about prolapse and also helps us in checking pre and post-birth function of surrounding muscles. Feedback of muscle activation is also assessed. Manual techniques can also be used internally to help with muscle release for better muscle control.

What’s next?

Based on the findings, we can then formulate a treatment plan. We use different treatment techniques including manual release, education, IMS or needling, muscle activation and exercises, clinical pilates exercises and more. We will always make sure you feel comfortable in the clinic space, and make sure everything is communicated clearly.
